Abstract:

Access to quality oral health care remains limited for individuals with disabilities due to barriers in communication, physical accessibility, and traditional clinical approaches. These obstacles heighten the risk of untreated dental disease, anxiety, and negative health outcomes in paediatric populations and adults with special needs .
“Disability Without Barriers” offers a replicable model for inclusive, empathetic dentistry that addresses both clinical and systemic gaps. By integrating communication tools, environmental modifications, caregiver involvement, and interdisciplinary collaboration, dental professionals can significantly enhance access, quality, and outcomes in special-needs paediatric populations.

Learning objectives :

  • Attendees will learn practical frameworks and tools to implement inclusive protocols in everyday practice—from initial patient reception through follow-up—and contribute to advancing humanized, barrier-free dental care.
     
  • Humanized Care: Integration of caregiver education, trust-based rapport-building, and patient-centric behaviour guidance for reducing dental fear and increasing compliance
     
  • Transdisciplinary Collaboration: Importance of working collaboratively with professionals in audiology, speech therapy, psychology, and rehabilitation to provide holistic care
