Abstract :
Based on the modifications to the classification of periodontal and peri-implant diseases in 2018 by the American Academy of Periodontology and the European Federation of Periodontology, the current challenge for the clinician to establish accurate periodontal diagnoses is based not only on evaluating and measuring destructive processes of the insertion apparatus, but also on developing strategies that seek to determine susceptibility to disease, risk factors and conditions that maintain periodontal health in the long term. Likewise, the population with dental implants has increased exponentially and the diseases related to them should be visualized under the same clinical criteria.
Learning objectives :
- To review key aspects of the new classification and treatment guidelines of periodontal diseases.
- To explore changes in the diagnostic analysis of periodontal and peri-implant diseases.
- To present the importance of susceptibility, progression, and control of periodontitis, and not only the loss of the periodontal attachment.
