Snjezana Pohl
Snjezana Pohl has a dual degree in human and dental medicine. She is a specialist in oral surgery, a certificated EDA* specialist for periodontology and implantology, and a Dental XP expert. She is in a private clinic in Rident, ADG, Croatia. Designated as an assistant professor, she also lectures at the Department of Oral Medicine and PEriodontology at the School of Dental Medicine of the University .
Snjezana Pohl is one of the pioneers of Partial Extraction Therapy, the author of scientific papers, an active national and international lecturer, and a member of the Dental XP PET research group.

Abstract :
A history of periodontitis is a risk factor for implants, especially if accompanied by smoking and poor oral hygiene. Additionally to the susceptibility to peri-implantitis, hard and soft tissue defects after the periodontally diseased teeth extraction adversely affect implant therapy. A team approach is required to manage cases with hard and soft tissue insufficiency, especially in the aesthetic area.
Supportive therapy is shown to be essential for successful long-term outcomes. But nowadays, when it seems that the mainstream therapy for patients with generalized advanced periodontitis is a full arch implant placement after ridge reduction, plaque control is difficult or impossible both for the patient and dental hygienist. A flattened vestibulum impedes access, and insufficient keratinized gingiva causes brushing discomfort.
Hard and soft tissue preservation and augmentation that maintains the natural ridge scallop may provide satisfactory and long-term stable results, even in patients with periodontally diseased dentition in the terminal phase.
This presentation will discuss the importance of tissue preservation, combination therapies, and a team approach for implant treatment for patients with a history of periodontitis.
