In a study published in the gold open access International Dental Journal, experts aimed to evaluate the recently developed FDI Digital Disease Profile Assessment tool as a potential method of screening patients for mild, moderate, or severe periodontitis. Indeed, results of the study revealed the tool to be a suitable resource for oral health professionals to screen patients’ periodontal condition in daily dental practice.

A significant challenge facing general dentists today is how to successfully manage patients with periodontitis to achieve predictable treatment outcomes and long-term health. Periodontal conditions significantly affect oral health and have enormous socioeconomic impacts and healthcare costs. They can have a negative impact on well-being and quality of life, leading to serious consequences such as problems with chewing, speaking and tooth loss.

The Digital Disease Profile Assessment tool aligns with the 2018 classification scheme for periodontal and peri-implant diseases and the S3 Level Clinical Practice Guideline for the treatment of Stage I–III periodontitis, released by the European Federation of Periodontology.
